THE GUITARS - ANNA ONEGLIA
For me, painting is a way to grapple with the magic and mystery of reality, a place to combine what is seen with what is felt. I am interested in transmuting the visible world through the lens of the inner self, forming a unique and personal view. I am never without my sketchbook, because my work begins with drawings made out in the world. In the studio these are mixed onto canvas, combined with visions from the imagination, feelings and remembered scenes - a combination of inner and outer observation. I work primarily in oils, due to their strength of color and the variety of texture they provide. Oil paints also allow a picture to change radically as it evolves on the canvas. The figure is central in most of my paintings, since I am interested in how humans shape, and are shaped by, the world.
My paintings have been published as posters for many causes over the years – Business Aid for AIDS, Bike to Work Week, and the National Nurse Midwives Association, Celebration of the Muse, to name only a few. This has led to an interest in the combined power of words and images. I am intrigued by the greater impact the two produce together - hence am involved in making an ongoing series of figurative block prints which include quotes within their design.
